Fall Grooming & Coat Transition Tips
Share
Autumn isn’t just sweater weather for you — it’s coat transition time for your pet. As temperatures shift, your furry friend starts shedding summer hair and prepping their winter coat. Here's how to help them through it.
🐕🦺 1. Brush More, Bathe Less
Fall shedding = more fur everywhere. Brush 3–4 times per week to reduce loose hair and prevent matting. But don’t over-bathe — it dries out skin and slows coat growth.
🧴 2. Switch to Moisturizing Grooming Products
Use hydrating shampoos and conditioners with oatmeal or aloe. Avoid strong scents and human products — they disrupt your pet’s skin balance.
🍁 3. Mind the Falling Leaves
Wet leaves = mold, bacteria, and hidden sharp sticks. After outdoor play, check paws and belly for debris, especially in long-haired pets.
✂️ 4. Trim, Don’t Shave
Never fully shave your pet going into colder months — the coat insulates them. If you must tidy up, go for a light trim, especially around paws and tail.
💨 5. Watch for Static & Indoor Dryness
Indoor heat + dry air = static shocks. Lightly mist their coat with water before brushing or use anti-static sprays made for pets.
🐾 Final tip:
Fall is the prep stage for winter comfort. With a little grooming TLC now, your pet will face the colder months looking and feeling their best.
